C-Section Birth Stories: Ashley Krajnik

1. Please share the circumstances that led to your c-section birth(s):

My daughter was due on January 27, 2019. On Dec. 31, 2018, I was having terrible back/side pain that wouldn't subside. So after ten hours of suffering from the pain, my husband took me to the hospital. There they thought I could either have a kidney stone or kidney infection. They started an antibiotic right away but I was allergic to it apparently. The antibiotic led me into temporary kidney failure. After three days of living in this uncertain circumstance, they finally decided to do an emergency c-section so they could start to take care of me.

2. What surprised you the most about having a c-section?:

The pain and recovery process. I always assumed it was an easy thing to go through (even though my mom had a c-section with me). So I was very shocked at how much pain I was in and how helpless I felt.

3. What kind of support do you feel you received (from friends, family, healthcare team) after your c-section(s)?:

I had LOADS of support. My husband and I stayed with my parents for the first three weeks after my daughter was born. It was very helpful. I had so many people reaching out to me to see how I was doing and if I needed any help.

4. What’s your #1 piece of advice/encouragement for a new c-section mom?:

Buy super comfy underwear and clothes for the recovery period. I lived in sweatpants and baggy shirts for about two months after my daughter was born.

5. How do you believe having a c-section birth(s) made you stronger?:

I feel I am more prepared for the uncertain. I also feel like going through such a traumatic experience made me appreciate life more.
